This small village on the left bank of the Garonne river has a charming centre that boasts 17th century houses with attractive Renaissance windows. Its church, whose façade is dated 1731, and whose portal features a lintel with an anagram of Christ, has been restored on several occasions.
In the past, Casarilh also had its own Romanesque church, and a recently restored figure of Christ, now displayed in Vielha’s ethnographic museum,, dates from this period.
As you stroll through its streets you’ll come across small, friendly restaurants serving Aranese cuisine, where you can try traditional dishes such as the famous “òlha aranesa” or game stews with venison or wild boar. You’ll also encounter many recipes that feature duck, including maigret - duck breast filets - and confits.
