THE AIGÜESTORTES I ESTANY DE SANT MAURICI NATIONAL PARK

Located in one of the most beautiful parts of the Pyrenees, Catalonia’s only national park represents an excellent sampling of the main ecosystems to be found in the Catalan mountains.

3,000 metre peaks, deep ravines, waterfalls and marshes – this is the kingdom of water. More than 200 high mountain lakes of different colours and shapes, and a huge variety of animal and plant species fighting for survival in a harsh environment bring life to a nature reserve that is unique in the south of Europe.

There are several access routes into the National Park. In the summer months, private vehicle access is restricted, and a mountain taxi service is provided from fixed locations.

From the Val d’Aran access to the park is at the following entry points:

Salardú – Val d’Aiguamòg - Lacs de Colomèrs: in summer access is restricted from the Banhs de Tredòs. A taxi service provides access from Banhs as far as the Crotze de Colomèrs, where the route to the Colomèrs lakes begins.

Arties – Val de Valarties – Restanca: in summer access is restricted from the Pònt de Ressèc. A taxi service provides access from Arties as far as Pontet de Rius.

Val de Conangles

Val de Ruda - Lagos de Saboredo

The main entry points in neighbouring regions are:

Vall de Boí in the Alta Ribagorça: 80 km.

Espot in the Pallars Sobirà: 54 km.
